I was a cable television subscriber for at least 10 years. Unfortunately, my experience with cable television was not what I would call a positive one. I was never satisfied with the quality of the reception and could not understand why I was not receiving the crystal-clear picture I expected to receive with cable. For me, cable television service meant frequent price increases. It seemed to me that they were raising the price of the service every few months even though the service was not improving and they were not adding new channels to my programming package. Although much has changed with cable TV service since I was a customer, I know that they have not changed their ways when it comes to frequent price increases. I live in an area where the only option for high-speed Internet service is provided by the local cable television company. Since I really do need high-speed Internet access, I am still dealing with frequent price increases imposed on me by the cable TV company today. Since I was never satisfied with cable television, I decided to try satellite television back around 1998. After researching my options, I decided to sign up with Dish Network. I chose Dish Network because the programming packages they offered were more in line with my tastes than the packages being offered by the other satellite TV service. My Dish Network service has been outstanding for the last nine years. I remain a very happy Dish Network customer and can report that I have had to deal with very few problems since I have had it. I experienced many more problems and outages with cable than I have with Dish Network. One of the claims that the cable television companies like to make is that satellite TV is frequently disrupted by the weather. Well, as a long-time satellite television customer, I can tell you that they are greatly exaggerating that problem. I have experienced very few weather-related disruptions, which only happen with extremely heavy rain. I suffered through a lot more "down time" with cable than I ever have with satellite TV. Even though the cable companies like to say that satellite TV is subject to a lot of weather-related outages, it's actually the opposite that is true. I was a cable customer long enough to see my share of outages when a traffic accident knocked a pole down or a bad storm caused a tree to fall on the wires and bring them down. If you compare Dish Network to cable television on the basis of reliability, I would vote for Dish Network without hesitation. Beyond the rare weather-related outage on Dish Network, all you normally have to worry about is whether or not you have electrical power. Since you receive the signal directly from the satellite, you do not have to rely on wires that might be brought down in a storm. As long as you have power, you can watch TV. Heck, even if you don't have power and you do have your own generator, you can watch satellite TV even when the lines are down!
