Paper Airplanes - Design & Build

Airplanes and flying have inspired different people in lots of different ways. For these people the ability of flying an airplane is thrilling and freeing in a way that few people can comprehend.

While there may be people who love the thrill of working of full sized airplanes there are those to whom the art of plane building begins at the small sized end. These people build paper airplanes of varying sizes and shapes.

Since the building of a model paper airplane requires very little material and only the patience of the builder, it is easy for anyone to begin to design their very own paper airplanes and there are no limits on one's imagination. In fact, there are numerous books available dedicated to the subject of building paper airplanes of all shapes and sizes. Many of these planes will fly for incredible amounts of time.

For the basics of paper airplane building, one only need bring your imagination and some paper. From there you can always use scissors, some glue, and even some colored pencils if you want to dress out your plane up just a bit. No matter, as you well know, the basics of paper plane building don't require a great deal of material to get you off and flying.

Although usually thought of as an activity that kids enjoy, designing, building, and flying paper airplanes is something anyone young at heart can do. In fact, there are some pretty serious competitions in the paper airplane building arena.

One of the keys to developing a successful paper airplane through plenty of trial and error. With each build you make, be sure to take note of the design changes you've made since your previous effort. Don't be to quick to dispose of your prototype, keep them around to remember your designs so you can improve upon them.

In fact, each iteration of your next paper airplane should look very similar to your last one as you have taken into account any possible design flaws and errors that may have occurred.

There is really no boundaries when as far as the type of paper you want to use in your design. After all, it is your design. More than likely the type of paper that you'll use in the design and construction of your paper airplane will be greatly influenced by the environment and the conditions under which you will be wanting your plane to take flight in.

So, let your imagination take flight and grab some colored paper, heavier paper, even cardboard or laminated paper. Start with a basic design and build from there. You'll soon be on your way to cutting, bending, and folding your way to several different designs and styles.

Once you get started, or if you find yourself a bit stuck once you do get started, simply do a quick search on paper airplanes and you'll soon find plenty of examples and books on the subject. Once you get the general idea of a few designs and what can be used, you'll be amazed at how your imagination and creative juices will flow.
