Have you noticed? The internet has revolutionised the world of work in the short space of a decade. Stay at home mums and anyone preferring to work from home can now earn mega dollars from the comfort of their own loungeroom. The market is now the global market: billions of potential customers turn on their computer every day. It has become understandably popular to run a home-based internet business. Why is it, then, that so many try and fail? This article outlines seven of the most common mistakes people make in running a home based internet business, so that you may avoid the pitfalls and turn your hard work into cash, as you deserve! It is imperative that you sell the right product. To achieve this, research is the key. It is counter-productive to sell a product which no one is looking for on the internet. Your research must be conducted thoroughly before you start anything else. There are plenty of search tools on the internet such as google search which will allow you to find out whether your product is sought after or not. A pile of product sitting in your garage can cost you a fortune. Many make the mistake of purchasing a pile of goods that collect dust in their garage awaiting sales. What a waste of your money. There are many manufacturers and wholesalers out there who are more than happy to have you sell their product for them. Better still in my opinion, is a digital product that takes up no space and is delivered immediately at no cost to you. In fact, the biggest selling product on the internet is information. Educational information is known as webucation. Do not sell low priced items with small profit. The reason for this is that you will need a huge number of sales before you make any money at all. This is time-consuming and can become frustrating. Rather, consider choosing a high priced item to market, such as one costing a thousand dollars or more. Ask yourself, how many 20 dollar items would you need to sell to make the same profit as a single one thousand dollar sale? This will encourage you to steer away from low priced items. Some have acheived success selling low priced items, but generally speaking it means more work and requires many more sales, which is not ideal. Don't forget the old saying: `look before you leap'. Many do! It's common to fall into financial trouble because an internet business sounded promising but things did not go as planned. You can check out an organisation's credentials, google it, consider testimonials and even better, find someone local to has experienced the organisation first hand. Investigate all aspects of the business before you sign on the dotted line. Make sure there is a forum for you to express concerns and ask questions. Do not assume you can go it alone. Business works best when it is team driven, and this equally applies to home based internet business. In fact, without team support, internet marketing can be the loneliest job on earth. So make sure you only purchase programs which provide full and ongoing training and support from real people. Testimonials are a good indicator of whether a program is likely to be successful for you. Ensure your support does not dwindle after you sign on the dotted line. Business planners, accountants and tax agents are your friends and you must not avoid them! See them very early in the process of establishing your internet home-based business if you want to save yourself serious grief later on. They will help you with tax issues, insurance, financial record keeping, business registration etc. Even if these issues do not thrill you, get them sorted out and early. You will be asked for some of this information in places and sites as you progress anyway, and if you don't have the information at your fingertips, you'll be sorry. Don't make the mistake of doing it alone. There is a wealth of knowledge on the internet that can help train you and raise your efficiency level. Local councils and towns often run free seminars and workshops for new and beginning businesses in the area so keep a lookout for these. This is also a wonderful place to rub shoulders with like minded people and a forum to discuss business processes and procedures. Don't feel threatened by by this crowd. They can be your greatest allies. Ineffective management of time is a common but avoidable pitfall of those who work from home. Because you're at home it is easy for kids and spouses to think you are available to them 24/7 and problems inevitably follow. Give your work schedule some concentrated thought and nut out a work schedule which is realistic and which makes everyone in the family happy. Ensure that children know they may not generally interrupt their mum or dad when they are working. Stick to this schedule as a general rule, and when exceptional circumstances present themselves, be flexible enough to vary it. Flexibility is, afterall, one of the best things about creating your own working hours. Big money can be made from home. Home based businesses are the way of the future. You may one day have an amazing testimonial to share with the world, if you read, listen, organise yourself and avoid some common pitfalls. I wish you all the success in the world as you glean advice from others who are achieving amazing success.
