Since there are so many things that can cause foot pain, preventing it is not always easy. People that suffer from heel and foot pain find it difficult to figure out where the pain is coming from. There are many different things that can cause heel and foot pain and it is a common problem among people of all ages. Sometimes it is as simple as wearing the wrong type of shoes or just standing for too long where other times, your foot pain could be caused by a more serious condition. Using the tips below can help in preventing foot pain: 1. Wear your shoes - Anytime that you are outside wear your shoes to protect your feet from unexpected dangers. Many of these will not be noticed until an accident occurs. This is especially important if you are a diabetic. Wearing shoes will help to prevent foot injuries and protect your feet. 2. Wear the right shoes- Proper shoes are very important. You need shoes that support your feet for what you will be doing that day and you need those that fit you well. Many people wear shoes that are too small or too large and don't even realize the damage they are doing to their feet. 3. Remember to rest your feet - Like any other part of your body, your feet need to rest sometimes. Prop them up once in a while and after a long day of standing take time to soak your feet and spend some time barefoot. 4. Hygiene is important - Poor hygiene can cause lots of problems for your feet. Protect them from fungus, germs and bacteria by always practicing good hygiene and by keeping your feet dry and clean. Be sure and change your socks as often as needed. 5. When exercising stretch and protect - Did you know that your feet have many muscles and 26 bones in each foot? This is why it is important that you stretch and wear shoes to support your feet when running or exercising. If you take the time to help prevent foot pain, you won't have to worry about suffering with it at a later date. As with anything "prevention is always the best medicine". It is advised that you see a podiatrist or at least your family doctor if you do suffer from foot pain. Never just ignore this pain and hope that it will go away as this could make the condition much worse. You need to take the best care of your feet as you can, considering the fact that you stand on them all day.
