How To Pick the Perfect Wedding Cross Stitch Pattern

You've set the date, booked the church, organised the flowers and ordered a photographer what else can you do to prepare for your special day? If you are an avid needleworker you can't let the day go by without commemorating it in stitches. Picking the perfect wedding cross stitch pattern is an important part of the preparations.

Cross stitch is a beautiful artistic art and it takes a great deal of time. This doesn't need to be a problem, however, as long as you have planned ahead. While creating your project from a wedding cross stitch pattern will probably take hours to complete, this is exactly what makes it such a wonderful gift. In fact, it is because of this generous commitment of your time and your talents, that your gift will be treasured forever.

Most cross stitch companies have several types of patterns for wedding gifts and memorabilia. Companies like Kooler Design Studio, Leisure Arts, Bucilla and Dimensions have all created special cross stitch patterns for weddings. While a framed sampler is a beautiful gift, you can also consider a variety of items to cross stitch from pillows to wedding albums. It is your loving handiwork that makes any of these choices a wonderful gift.

Traditionally, the sampler was used as a teaching tool for a young girl in Victorian times. The young girl would learn how to sew, embroider, and cross stitch by completing an alphabet, a picture, and often acted as way to record family information. It's quite possible that it was out of this tradition that the wedding sampler was born.

Choosing a pattern for your cross stitch project may not be easy, especially since there are so many on the market. You might consider the tastes of the couple, as well as the colors they plan on using for the ceremony. Are they frilly and mushy - requiring flowers and lace? Or are they more modern and likely to go against tradition?

If you are looking for an idea other than a sampler, why not consider cross stitching the lyrics of the couple's favorite song or a special poem? You could also have a picture of the couple made into a cross stitch pattern. Don't forget to consider the projected time necessary to complete any given pattern, however. There are plenty of simpler wedding cross stitch patterns to choose from if your schedule will not permit these more complicated suggestions. What is important is that the pattern you choose suits the couple you are making the gift for. As long as your gift reflects them and the love they share, you will have found just the perfect project.

Every bride wants to remember her wedding day. Besides the photographs taken, there is no better way to help her do that than with a hand-stitched gift. Choose carefully from the myriad patterns available. The wedding cross stitch pattern you use will be an heirloom for the couple to cherish for years to come.
