Hoodia Side Effects: Is Hoodia Safe When Breastfeeding?

If you are a new mom you are probably ready to lose the weight and get your pre-pregnancy figure back. Diet pills that promise quick and easy weight loss can surely be tempting. One such diet pill is hoodia. Although there are virtually no hoodia side effects with this diet pill, it is still strongly advised that you avoid taking hoodia if you are breastfeeding.

If you are a breastfeeding mom you should delay starting hoodia until after your baby is weaned. Granted, there aren't any reports or reasons to back up this advice. In fact, the evidence suggests that authentic hoodia should be safe for most healthy individuals. Yet, breastfeeding moms are warned against taking it. I have a couple theories why that might be.

Hoodia is an appetite suppressant. If it passes through to your breast milk, and there is no proof that it does or doesn't, but if it does, it is likely that your baby's appetite will probably be suppressed as well. Everyone knows that a baby needs all the milk and nourishment she can hold. No one wants their baby to feel "full" when her body is actually hungry. That isn't healthy.

A breastfeeding mom needs to keep her own health in mind. She needs a lot of nourishment and calories to keep her body strong and healthy. Taking an appetite suppressant like hoodia can make a women feel full. This means she will eat less and she will not receive the nourishment and calories she needs to stay healthy and breastfeed.

A good way for new moms to begin getting back into their pre-baby shape is to put the baby into the stroller and go for a walk each day. Start slow and don't push yourself. Know that while your body is benefiting from the exercise, both you and your baby are benefiting from the fresh air. Keep in mind that when you are breastfeeding it is important to keep your water intake up. Breastfeeding moms do not need to become dehydrated. When you walk, take along a water bottle.

Another route that is great for new moms who want to get started on regaining their pre-pregnancy bodies is to take a class. Talk with your obstetrician, or check your local health department or hospital, to see what exercise groups are available for new moms in your area.

It can be tempting to take diet supplements when you are breastfeeding. But, keep in mind that breastfeeding itself increases your metabolism. You don't need weight loss supplements now. Eat a healthy diet and combine that with exercise and you will soon be on your way to your pre-baby figure.

Despite the recorded hoodia side effects being almost unheard of, it is still not recommended that breastfeeding mothers take this diet supplement. Postpone the hoodia diet pills until after you have finished breastfeeding. A sensible diet and gentle post natal exercise will have you glowing and toned up in no time.
