Do weight loss pills really work?

Today, overweight and obesity is becoming an increasing problem for a major part of the population in developed countries. For example, in the US, more than 60% of the population is either overweight or obese.

Because this is such a problem, the weight loss industry is also rapidly expanding. Weight loss pills, one of the industry's products, have become increasingly popular as well. However, do these pills really work? Are there actually any benefits that you may hope to get from them?

These days, you can choose from prescription weight loss pills prescribed by your general practitioner if have a high body mass index and your obesity actually threatens your life or health. You can also take natural dietary supplements that might be useful to you if you are not morbidly obese, but simply need to lose a little weight and improve your appearance instead.

As a rule, all weight loss pills act like appetite suppressants, fat burners or most promising cure - fat blockers.

To answer the previous question, then, do weight loss pills really cure you of being overweight forever? To answer that, let's look at why excess weight happens in the first place.

One of the reasons you might carry around extra weight is because your genetic predisposition puts you at increased risk of weight gain. Therefore, if you take appetite suppressants or fat burners, be aware that your genetics will not change, and pills that simply support light weight loss will not change your genetics. Therefore, the outcome won't change, either.

You'll need to change your life style and dieting regime, as for weight loss pills - they can help you on initial stages of your new life style. Later on, when you become physically active and have proper nutrition, you won't need weight loss pills anymore.

The second reason for overweight or obesity is the most common, which is lifestyle and nutrition or lack thereof. If you live a stressful life, don't exercise enough, and eat fatty and unhealthy meals, this can lead to disruptions in your metabolism.

With this situation, a weight loss pill is not going to help you lose weight. Simply suppressing your appetite or taking a fat burner is not going to restore your metabolism and make it healthy again until you take the steps to do so.

The most important thing here to remember is that you should start a healthy diet and exercise program, and follow both during your day. If you do this, weight loss pills can then provide you a quick start that may work to enhance your weight loss, although they still will not substitute for it.

As an example, fat blockers can help you absorb less fat; if you eat a healthy diet in addition, you should be able to lose more weight.

If you think fat blockers are there to provide a magical solution but you keep eating starchy, unhealthy fatty foods along with them, you're not going to notice any significant weight loss. And in fact, your metabolism is going to stay sluggish, so that you'll find the weight loss pills are just a waste of time and money.

Consider the following: a proper and healthy diet along with an exercise program should be first on your list in your quest to lose weight. If you do these things and only if you do these things, you may improve your weight loss with fat blockers or other diet pills to simply give you a little help. In that case, though, you may see 40 or 50 kg drop off in five to six months as true reality, not just as an advertising claim. If that's true, this may be an actual and achieve a result of your own efforts, simply supported by the use of weight loss pills.
