Art Competitions - Get In!

In the world of the fine arts, be it painting, sculpture, architecture or any other recognized form of art, for an aspirant to get a toehold is very difficult. This is where art competitions come to their rescue. This is a venue where he can exhibit his creation(s). The upbeat that an artist feels when he or she hears that his entry has been accepted has to be experienced. Many a success story has been launched from these events.

Works of different artist who have entered the competition are judged either by one person or a group of persons enjoying a high standing in the field of arts. The more famous these people the more prestigious the event. These events take place on a regular basis, either annually or biannually. At times an odd event also takes place.

One of the main factors that greatly enhanced the reputation of an art competition is the standing of the Judge who is going to preside over the function. Some competitions have a panel of Judges to grace the occasion. The more well known the Judge or the Jury, the more notable the event. Most of these contests are regular happenings, taking place once or twice a year. Some have an established history and these are the ones that create a center of attention.

Art competitions can be either general in nature or can be held on a specific theme. These can be based on the medium of expression (like charcoal or oils), style (cubism), type (miniature painting) or content (still life, people etc.). Each theme or topic has its own specific following of collectors who make it a point to attend such competitions.

Almost always art competitions are general in nature, perhaps based on a theme. For example, a competition based on the depiction of a particular event - say thanksgiving. Other variations could include paintings on a particular medium like oil on canvas or on the style of painting like Dali or Picasso or on just about anything that constitutes art. Specific themes bring in a specific set of people who regularly grace such art competitions.

Whether a work of art is liked or not is, for the most part, personal. As such the probability of a piece of art that failed to bag an award but would have got the attention of a Judge or a collector is high. The collector may not buy it himself, but even a positive comment on it could prompt a casual observer to pick it up.

Once a painting is sold it, acquaintances and friends talk and comment about it. The circle of attention that the painting attracts becomes slowly wider. Another person my be inclined to visit another art competition where the particular artists works have been entered. The circle becomes wider and just about anything can happen.
