A trip into a new future

I wanted to share a process with you which I've found really helpful in working out why I wasn't getting anywhere with some of my goals. My good friend Adrian Peck first introduced me to the concept - he has been getting some excellent results with his coaching clients using this approach. It wasn't until I heard an audio presentation from Peter Thomson, one of the UK's top business strategists, that it really began to fall into place for me. I've done some more development work on how this works, so here goes - and be ready to see incredible results!

You see, human beings are really amazing entities - they connect to an incredibly complex world and make sense of the whirl of information that's going on around us. Tor Norretranders in 'The User Illusion' suggests that we receive millions and millions of pieces of information every second - and yet we only consciously process 40 or so of those. The rest of it we discard until we focus on them - so until I mention the temperature in the room you're sitting in, or the pressure on your rear end from the chair you're sitting on, or the background noise, you're not aware of any of it. Here's the thing - your unconscious mind is completely aware of all that information, and is busy filtering out what's important and what's not. Now, some of that background information is vital to our success - if we could just process it properly.

It gets so muchbetter. If we give our unconscious mind a task to do, it will go away and work on that task - sifting what it knows and coming up with new insights for you that your conscious mind is busy ignoring. So if we ask the unconscious mind to produce new ideas for our business, or a solution to a problem, then it will go away and work on it. Try it before you go to bed at night - give your unconscious mind a problem to work on, and see what new insights arrive the next day.

So we're connected to the world that's out there through our unconscious mind. What's more, we're connected to far more than our immediate environment. If you're open to the thought, we're actually connected to what some call 'the grid' - the collective consciousness of the human race, through our superconscious minds - that part of us that connects us to a spiritual level. At some level, we are all interlinked. And one step beyond that, we're also connected to 'The Universe' or 'The Divine', or 'Source Energy' or 'God' or however you want to term it. This usually makes its way to us through our unconscious too - simply because our conscious minds tend to dismiss 'spooky stuff'.

So what that means is that we have incredible resources at our disposal. The way to access all that is to get our critical conscious minds out of the way. And the easiest way to do that is to use our imaginations.....

So, here we go. If you have a goal that you want to achieve in the future, or an obstacle that you're going to overcome, then this technique will give you some great insights.

First of all, decide exactly what it is you want to achieve. Make it real and concrete. Give it details. Decide when you want to achieve it. You can find more information on how to set goals that you can really achieve in one of my articles HERE

Now find somewhere you can relax undisturbed for a few minutes. You might want to put some music on that will help you relax too.

Now close your eyes and consider your life stretching out into the future.. You might see this as a cord of light stretching into the future (mine is electric blue!) or as a pathway - however you see it is perfect. Imagine what it will be like if you don't achieve your goal... take a trip into the future and look back, knowing that you haven't achieved that objective. Imagine how it would feel - get really in touch with the disappointment and then ask yourself the question 'what do I wish I had done differently?'. What would have made the difference between achieving that goal and not achieving it? Take note of what would have made all the difference. Let your unconscious feed you all the things you needed to do differently to achieve that goal. What did you need to do - and what did you need to avoid?

Take a deep breath and imagine that something magical has happened. You've easily achieved what you set out to do. You've become successful. Connect with the feeling of achievement: see yourself having done it - see what you would see, hear what you would hear, feel how you would feel inside. What would you say to yourself? Now look back and ask yourself 'what did I do that made the difference?' What were the key actions that you took that guaranteed success? Take note of what you did that made you successful.

Now return to Now, bringing all that insight with you. You now have a list of actions to take that will guarantee that you achieve your goal. That insight has come from your unconscious learning, and, I would dare to say, from your connection to the Universe. You'll be amazed at some of the insights that you get when you do this - some things will be common sense, just clearer and more definite. Others will surprise you - things you wouldn't expect, insights that you couldn't possibly have known.

Now all you need to do is to work out how to make sure your action plan has those insights incorporated into it.

Have some fun and play around with it. See what you get... and be sure to email me your successes!
