Here are 10 tips for the seasoned road warrior, to make travelleling a more pleasurable experience. 1. Choose your method of travel wisely. Which method of transport you choose is dependant on a number of different factors. Long trips should be taken by airplane, of course, but what about the shorter ones? Maybe a train or bus would be more suitable? Which ever you choose the are thing you should consider, like the time it takes travelling to and from the airport as well as time spent waiting in checkin. The can be deciding factor also. The last thing you want to hear is that your flight is delayed due to poor weather. 2. It may be easier to fly from an alternative airport. The same can be said for you destination airport. It's not unusual for smaller airports within the same city or area to be less congested and have less delays. 3. Print of Copies of Destiantion Maps Research your destination before you leave by getting maps. There are a number of websites online to do this, like City Search (http://citysearch.com/) or even googlemaps. You can print them of and then I recommend keeping them in a plastic sleave to protect them from the element, in case you have to check it on a rainy street corner. 4. You Don't Need to Carry Hard Copy Instead of lugging around great big stacks of brochures or sales letters, you can load copies on to discs or portbale USB HardDrives and simply get them printed at you destination. Also, if you are travelling to a trade show, or presentation, you can have extra copies made incase you run out. 5. Inform you Cellular Company that You are Travelling Mobile phone companies regularly offer new rates. Check with your company to be sure you're getting the best deal -- some now include long distance charges in the monthly fee. If your business travel will take you to small, out-of-the way towns, your digital phone might not work. You will need an analogue or dual digital/analogue phone for such trips. 6. Choose a Hotel that Caters for Business Trips This is important if you require certain facilities such as internet access and business machine like photocopiers or faxes. 7. Remember Adaptors and Converters. If you're travelling to a foreign country, remember that you might need special voltage adaptors for electricity. You might also need plug adapters to accommodate both electrical plugs and telephone jacks. A good travel store will be able to help you decide what's needed. 8. Use Phone Cards Phone bills can get quite expensive, especially if calling friend and family from a far off place. A much cheaper option is the prepaid calling card. 9. Obtain an International Drivers License When travelling abroad it may be a better idea to get an internation licence as it will be more widley recognised than you locally issued one. They aren't difficult to aquire. To find out more just contact your local Automobile Association. 10. Make sure you Protect Against Theft. Before leaving home, make copies of your travel documents (passport, airline tickets, travel insurance, credit cards and itinerary). Take copies with you and leave a copy with a contact at home. Take special precautions for your electronics. See what your local travel store has to offer in terms of protective luggage. You can purchase laptop cases that disguise the fact that they're used for laptops, or laptop cases that look old and battered. And of course, you already know how fast and savvy a pickpocket can be. Avoid carrying important documents in your purse or hip pocket.
